Upper Richbar Day Use Site, kernville, ca

Upper Richbar day use site, elevation 1,440 ft., is located 5 miles inside the forest boundary off state highway 178 in the lower southwest corner of the Kern River Ranger District. It is the third facility visitors come to travelling state highway 178 past the forest boundary. The site is within a mile of the Live Oak and Lower Richbar sites and all sites are adjacent to the Kern River. There are 15 single family picnic sites. The facility contains 2 double CXT vault toilets. The site offers fishing, picnicking, rafting, and kayaking. The road and both parking lots (43 total spaces) are paved and the trails to the sites and river are natural surface.

Upper Coffee Camp Day Use Site

Upper Coffee Camp day use site, elevation 2,000 feet, is located east of Porterville, CA off state highway 190 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It is the second facility visitors come to past the forest boundary travelling state highway 190. The site is east of Lower Coffee Camp day us site. The site offers swimming, picnicking, and fishing. There are 15 single family picnic sites. The facility contains 1 double CXT vault toilet and a quad concrete vault toilet. The road and 26 space parking lot is paved and the trails to the sites are natural surface.

Trail of 100 Giants Day Use Site

Trail of 100 Giants day use site and interpretive trail, elevation 6,400 ft., is located off county highway M107 in the central area of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It lies within the Long Meadow giant sequoia grove. Redwood Meadow campground is across from this site and the Long Meadow group campground is within a mile. The site offers education and interpretation of the giant sequoia grove, parking, an accessible hiking trail and picnicking. The parking area contains 14 designated, paved parking spaces in addition to 10 designated, natural surface spaces. The asphalt paved 1.4 mile walking trail through the grove meets accessibility standards. Along the hiking path are 27 interpretive signs, 4 information kiosks and 19 benches. The facility also contains 1 double CXT vault toilet and 4 picnic tables. Across the road is Redwood Campground, a store located in a yurt.

Lower Richbar Day Use Site

Lower Richbar day use site, elevation 1,435 ft., is located 4 miles inside the forest service boundary off state highway 178 in the lower southwest corner of the Kern River Ranger District. It is the second facility visitors come to as they enter the forest travelling on state highway 178. The day use site is within a ½ mile of the Live Oak and Upper Richbar day use sites and all sites are adjacent to the Kern River. There are 8 single family picnic sites. The facility contains 1 double CXT vault toilet. The site offers fishing, picnicking, rafting, and kayaking. The road and 9 space parking lot are paved. The trails to the sites and river are natural surface.

Lower Coffee Camp Day Use Site

Lower Coffee Camp day use site, elevation 2,000 feet, is located east of Porterville, CA off state highway 190 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It is the first facility visitors come to as they enter the forest traveling on state highway 190. The site is within a mile of Upper Coffee Camp day use site. There are 10 single family picnic sites each with a table. The facility contains 2 double CXT vault toilets. The road and 19 space parking lot is paved and the trails to the sites are natural surface.

Kernville Road, Kernville, CA 93238, USA

Live Oak day use site, elevation 1,430 ft., is located 4 miles inside the forest service boundary off state highway 178 in the lower southwest corner of the Kern River Ranger District. It is the first facility visitors come to as they enter the forest traveling on state highway 178. The day use site is within a mile of the Lower and Upper Richbar day use sites to the east and all sites are adjacent to the Kern River. The facility contains 2 double CXT vault toilets. The site offers fishing, picnicking, rafting, kayaking, and hiking. The road, 16 space parking lot and the trails to the sites and river are natural surface.

Wishon Cabin ca

Wishon cabin, elevation 4,000 feet, is located off state highway 190 and at the end of county road 208 in the north east section of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits at the confluence of the Tule River and Hosack Creek that form the North Fork Middle Fork River. Two giant sequoia groves are accessed from the adjacent Doyle trailhead. The Tule River and FSR 20S03 pass through the campground. The cabin is adjacent to a 33 site family campground. The 2 bedroom cabin has a capacity of 10 people at one time. The cabin does not meet accessibility standards. Amenities include a kitchen, living room, and bathroom with flush toilet and shower. Propane and electric are available.

Quaking Aspen Cabin ca

Quaking Aspen cabin is located at 7,000 ft. elevation at the intersection of state highway 190 and county road M107 in the northeast section of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits within a short drive of 5 giant sequoia groves. The cabin is adjacent to a 30 site family campground and 7 site group campground, Summit Mountain National Recreation Trail, Slate Mountain Botanical Area and Tule River. The 1 bedroom cabin has a capacity of 5 people at one time. The cabin does not meet accessibility standards. Amenities include a kitchen, living room, and bathroom with flush toilet and shower. Propane and electric are available.

Poso Guard Station

Poso Guard Station cabin is located at 4,480 ft. elevation on a forest service road east off county highway M3 and M9 in the southwest corner of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. The cabin is approximately 10 miles west of Sugarloaf Park winter play area (FSR23S16) and an hour drive from Porterville or Bakersfield. The cabin features unobstructed views of the San Joaquin Valley, Greenhorn Mountains and Tobias Peak. The one story, one-bedroom cabin was built in 1933 and has a capacity of 5 people at one time. The cabin does not meet accessibility standards. Amenities include 1 queen bed, 1 twin bed, a hideaway couch located in the living room area, dining table with chairs, fully equipped kitchen with microwave, coffeemaker, pots, dishes and utensils, and propane operated stove, furnace, and hot water heater. There is electricity for the lights and refrigerator.

Tillie Creek Campground ca

Tillie Creek Group Campground is located at 2,680 ft. elevation on the northeast shore of Isabella Lake off state highway 155 in the Kern River Ranger District. There are 4 group sites and 158 single family sites. There is a total of 30 picnic tables, 4 fire rings, and 18 grills, (single, double, and triple). The group site contains 8 single vault toilets (2 per site). The roads are paved, and sites are natural surface.

Thunderbird Group Campground

Thunderbird Group Campground is located at 2,800 ft. elevation north of Isabella Lake off county highway 99 in the Kern River Ranger District. The site is located adjacent to the Kern River. The facility contains 3 group sites that can accommodate up to 54 people at one time. The site has a total of 8 picnic tables, and 3 fire rings. Site 1 has one 13 ft. x 21 ft. metal shade canopy each. The parking, camping and roads are natural surface.

Quaking Aspen Group Campground

Quaking Aspen group campground is located at 7,000 ft. elevation at the intersection of state highway 190 and county road M107 in the northeast section of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits within a short drive of 5 giant sequoia groves. The campground is adjacent to a 30 site family campground and a rental cabin, Summit Mountain National Recreation Trail, Slate Mountain Botanical Area and Tule River. The facility contains 7 group units that can accommodate up to 136 people at one time and 1 group yurt. The site contains 1 single CXT vault and 2 double wood vault toilets. The parking, camping and roads are paved.

Long Meadow Group Campground

Long Meadow Group Campground, 6,000 ft. elevation, is located east of Porterville, CA along county road M107 in the center of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits adjacent to the Long Meadow giant sequoia grove. The Trail of 100 Giants interpretive trail and Redwood Meadow campground are within a ½ mile. The facility contains 6 family units that can accommodate up to 36 people at one time. The site contains 2 single vault toilets. The parking, camping and roads are natural surface.

Logger Flat Group Campground

Logger Flat Group Campground, elevation 5,350 feet, is located off state highway 180, the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, then south for 8 miles on FSR13S09 past Hume Lake in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. It sits a couple miles south of Hume Lake. The accessible facility contains 1 group site that can accommodate up to 50 people and 30 vehicles at one time. The site has a total of 5 picnic tables, 5 pedestal grills, a group fire ring, no serving tables, and 4 bear food storage boxes. The site has 2 older “Romtec” brand single vault restrooms. The parking and the access road are natural surface.

Halfway Group Campground ca

Halfway Group Campground is located at 2,800 ft. elevation north of Isabella Lake off county highway 99 in the Kern River Ranger District. The site is located adjacent to the Kern River. The facility contains 5 group sites that can accommodate up to 150 people at one time. The site has a total of 24 picnic tables, and 6 fire rings. Sites 3 and 4 have one 13 ft. x 21 ft. metal shade canopy each. The parking, camping and roads are natural surface.

French Gulch Group Campground ca

French Gulch Campground is located at 2,500 ft. elevation on the southeast shore of Isabella Lake off state highway 155 in the Kern River Ranger District. The facility contains 1 group site that can accommodate up to 100 people at one time. The site has 24 picnic tables, 3 benches, 2 large grills and 1 fire ring. There are 2 flush toilet buildings. A wood framed shelter pergola with 6 picnic tables serves the group site. Concrete sidewalks connect the site, parking lot, toilet, and picnic shelter.

Fir Group Campground

Fir Group Campground is located at 6,475 ft. elevation off FSR 30, the General’s Highway, at the southeastern tip of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. Upper Stony Creek and Stony Creek campgrounds and, Fir and Cove Group campgrounds sit within a half mile of each other in this area. The facility contains 1 group site that can accommodate up to 100 people and 30 vehicles at one time. The site has 2 double CXT vault restrooms. The parking and the access road are paved.

Cove Group Campground

Cove Group Campground is located at 6,400 ft. elevation off FSR 30, the General’s Highway, at the southeastern tip of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. Upper Stony Creek and Stony Creek campgrounds and, Fir and Cove Group campgrounds sit within a half mile of each other in this area. The facility contains 1 group site that can accommodate up to 50 people and 10 vehicles at one time. The site has a total of 5 picnic tables, 2 group pedestal grills, a group fire ring, 3 serving tables, and 4 bear resistant food storage boxes. The site has 1 double CXT vault restroom. The parking is paved while the access road is a natural surface.

Camp 3 Group Campground ca

Camp 3 Campground is located at 2,800 ft. elevation north of Isabella Lake off county highway M99 along the Kern River in the Kern River Ranger District. Each group site can accommodate up to 30 people at one time. Each site contains a table, fire ring, 2 bear resistant food storage boxes and 11 ft. x 11 ft. metal shade canopy; sites 1 and 2 have a water hydrant. The facility contains 4 portable toilets (the adjacent single family campground has 6 double CXT vault toilets). The road is paved, and sites are natural surface.

Black Gulch South Group Campground

Black Gulch South Group Campground, elevation 2,390 ft. is located 3 miles southwest of Isabella Lake on the north side of state highway 178 across from Sandy Flats campground adjacent to the Lower Kern River in the Kern River Ranger District. There are 5 group sites in 2 areas that can accommodate a total of 178 people. One site accommodates 18 people, two sites accommodate 30 people and two sites accommodate 50 people each. Recreational vehicles or trailers are not recommended. This site contains 2 double unit vault toilets, 20 picnic tables, and 5 fire rings.

Aspen Hollow Group Campground

Aspen Hollow Group Campground is located at 5,300 ft. elevation approximately a mile south of Hume Lake off FSR 13S09 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. The accessible facility contains 1 group site that can accommodate up to 100 people at one time. The site has a total of 12 picnic tables, a group pedestal grill, a group fire ring, serving tables, 4 bear resistant food storage boxes, 3 small fire rings and 3 small grills. The site has 3 single CXT vault restrooms. The parking, camping and roads are paved.

Wishon Campground

Wishon Campground, elevation 4,000 feet, is located east of Porterville, CA off state highway 190 and county road 208 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits at the confluence of the Tule River and Hossack Creek that form the North Fork Middle Fork River. Two giant sequoia groves are accessed from the adjacent Doyle trailhead. There are 33 sites: 29 single family sites and 4 double sites and a rental cabin. Seven sites and the cabin sit on west side of river. Each site contains a table, fire ring and tent pad. The facility contains 1 single CXT vault toilet, 1 double CXT vault toilet, 3 double wooden vault toilets and 1 quad vault toilet. The road and camping pads are natural surface.

Upper Stony Creek Campground, elevation 6,450 feet, is located off the General’s Highway, at the southeastern tip of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. Upper Stony Creek and Stony Creek campgrounds and, Fir and Cove Group campgrounds sit within a half mile of each other in this area. Each site contains a heavy-duty redwood table and fire ring and bear resistant food storage locker. The facility contains 2 single CXT vault toilets. The roads and sites are a natural surface.

Tillie Creek Campground

Tillie Creek Campground is located at 2,680 ft. elevation on the northeast shore of Isabella Lake off state highway 155 in the Kern River Ranger District. Each single family site contains a table and fire ring. The facility contains 7 concrete block flush toilet buildings. A fish cleaning station is located near the restroom and has 5 faucet hydrants for 12 stand up cleaning stations. The station is open air and one trough with cutting boards drains into a vault. Trash cans are located under the trough. The roads are paved, and sites are natural surface.

Tenmile Campground

Tenmile Campground, elevation 5,750 feet, is located off state highway 180, the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, then south for 10 miles on FSR13S09 past Hume Lake in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. It sits 5 miles south of Hume Lake. There are 10 campsites: 7 single family sites and 3 double sites. Each site contains a heavy-duty redwood table and fire ring and, 6 sites have bear food storage lockers. The facility contains 2 single CXT vault toilets. The roads and sites are a natural surface.

Sandy Flat Campground

Sandy Flat Campground is located at 2,350 ft. elevation three miles southwest of Isabella Lake off state highway 178 along the lower Kern River in the Kern River Ranger District. There are 35 single family sites (up to 24 ft. length). Each single family site contains a table and fire ring. The facility contains 4 single CXT vault toilets. The road and sites are paved.

Stony Creek Campground

Stony Creek Campground, elevation 6,450 feet, is located off FSR 30, the General’s Highway, at the southeastern tip of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. Upper Stony Creek and Stony Creek campgrounds and, Fir and Cove Group campgrounds sit within a half mile of each other in this area. There are 45 campsites: 43 single family sites and 2 double sites. Each site contains a heavy-duty redwood table and fire ring and bear resistant food storage locker. The facility contains 6 double CXT vault toilets. The roads are paved, and sites are a natural surface.

Redwood Meadow Campground

Redwood Campground, elevation 6,400 feet, is located east of Porterville, CA along county road M107 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits adjacent to the Long Meadow giant sequoia grove that contains the Trail of 100 Giants interpretive trail. There are 6 single family sites and, 6 yurts. The facility contains 2 double wooden vault toilets. The road and camping pads are paved.

Quaking Aspen Campground

Quaking Aspen Campground, elevation 7,000 feet, is located east of Porterville, CA at the intersection of state highway 190 and county road M107 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits within a short drive of 5 giant sequoia groves. There are 30 single family, 4 tent only sites and 5 yurts. The facility contains 1 single CXT vault toilet, 2 double CXT vault toilets and 2 wood quad stall vault toilets. The road and camping pads are natural surface.

Princess Campground, elevation 5,850 feet, is located off state highway 180, the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, just north of Kings Canyon National Park in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. It sits within the Indian Basin giant sequoia grove. There are 89 campsites: 87 single family sites and 2 double sites. Each site contains a heavy-duty redwood table and fire ring and, 72 sites contain bear resistant food storage lockers. The facility contains 2 single and 6 double CXT vault toilets. The roads and sites are paved.

Pioneer Point Campground ca

Pioneer Point Campground is located at 2,625 ft. elevation on the southeast shore of Isabella Lake off state highway 155 in the Kern River Ranger District. There are 77 single family sites (up to 30 ft. long). Each site contains a table and fire ring and/or pedestal grill. The facility contains 4 concrete block flush toilets. The road through the campground is paved but the sites are a natural surface.

Paradise Cove Campground ca

Paradise Cove Campground is located at 2,640 ft. elevation on the south shore of Isabella Lake off state highway 178 in the Kern River Ranger District. There are 138 total designated sites; 58 single family sites and 80 sites located in a paved parking lot dispersed situation. Each site contains a table and fire ring and/or pedestal grill. The facility contains 2 concrete block flush toilets. The road through the campground is paved but the 58 single sites are a natural surface.

Lower Peppermint Campground

Lower Peppermint Campground, elevation 5,200 feet, is located east of Porterville, CA off county highway M50 then northeast for 20 miles on FSR 22S82 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. There are 19 single family sites and trailers over 16 ft. length are not recommended. Each site contains a table and fire ring and/or pedestal grill. The facility contains two 4-unit wood vault toilets. The road and camping pads are natural surface.

Live Oak North Campground ca

Live Oak North Campground is located at 2,690 ft. elevation on the west shore of Isabella Lake off state highway 155 in the Kern River Ranger District. This site is currently managed as an overflow campground. There are 59 single family sites. Each site contains a table and fire ring and/or pedestal grill. The facility contains 2 concrete block flush toilets with showers. The road through the campground is paved but the sites are a natural surface.

Limestone Campground ca

Limestone Campground is located at 3,800 ft. elevation north of Isabella Lake off county highway M99 along the Kern River in the Kern River Ranger District. There are 20 single family sites (up to 30 ft. length). Each single family site contains a table and fire ring. The facility contains 4 double wooden vault toilets. The road is paved, and sites are natural surface.

Landslide Campground

Landslide Campground, elevation 5,750 feet, is located off state highway 180, the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, then south for 8 miles on FSR13S09 past Hume Lake in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. It sits a couple miles south of Hume Lake. There are 10 campsites: 8 single family sites and 2 double sites. Each site contains a heavy-duty redwood table and fire ring and bear resistant food storage locker. The facility contains 1 single CXT vault toilet. The roads and sites are a natural surface.

Hungry Gulch Campground is located at 2,630 ft. elevation on the east shore of Isabella Lake off state highway 155. There are 79 single family sites (up to 30 ft. long). Each site contains a table and fire ring and/or pedestal grill. The facility contains 3 concrete block flush toilets. The road through the campground is paved but the sites are a natural surface.

Hume Lake Campground

Hume Lake Campground, elevation 5,250 feet, is located off state highway 180, the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, then south on FSR13S09 for 5 miles to the northwest side of Hume Lake in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Hume Lake Ranger District. It sits near the Lockwood giant sequoia grove. There are 71 campsites: 66 single family sites and 5 double sites. Each site contains a heavy-duty redwood table, fire ring and bear resistant food storage locker. The facility contains 4 flush toilet buildings. The roads are paved, and sites are a natural surface.

Hospital Flat Campground

Hospital Flat Campground is located at 2,970 ft. elevation north of Isabella Lake off county highway M99 along the Kern River in the Kern River Ranger District. There are 40 single family sites (up to 30 ft. length) and 1 group site (30-person capacity). Each single family site contains a table, fire ring and bear resistant food storage box. The facility contains 6 double wooden vault buildings and 4 portable toilets at the group site. The road and spurs are paved.

Holey Meadow Campground

Holey Meadow Campground, elevation 6,000 feet, is located east of Porterville, CA off county highway M107 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the Western Divide Ranger District. It sits between the Long Meadow and Starvation Creek giant sequoia groves. There are 10 single family sites. Each site contains a table and fire ring and/or pedestal.
