Hayden Creek Campground is a hidden gem on the Salida Ranger District. The campground is small with only 11 sites. It is located on the banks of Hayden Creek and at the base of the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The campground is wooded and very secluded. Sites are best suited to tent camping or small trailers or RV’s. Ideally, vehicles less than 30 ft. work best in the area.

Reservations are not taken for this campground. All sites are first-come, first-served. Also, vault toilet is available only during peak season.

This is a first-come, first-served campground. No reservation is required.

Campground Information
 Fees are payable by cash, check or money order. Self-servicing fee tube is available.
First-come, first-served sites must be occupied the SAME NIGHT.
Golden Age and Golden Access Cardholder: 50% discount off the camping fee only.

The following restrictions apply to this campground:

  • Maximum 8 persons per site: 2 tents and 2 vehicles or 1 recreation vehicle (RV).
  • Maximum length of RV is 30 ft.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks.
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground.
  • Camping is NOT ALLOWED behind a LOCKED GATE.
Camping & Recreation

Bears are common in this area and campers must place all coolers, food and edible items in a hard-sided vehicle at night. Do not leave food out on picnic tables or leave pet food bowls on the ground.

Services & Facilities

Vault toilet is available only during peak season.  No water.  Parking is limited to the parking spur provided at each campsite.

Directions

From Canon City, Colorado travel west on Highway 50 to Coaldale. Coaldale is a tiny town located on the banks of the Arkansas River. As you enter Coaldale, watch for a sign on the left that says, National Forest access, Hayden Creek campground. Turn left at this sign and onto County Road 6. Stay on this road for 5 miles, passing the Cutty’s private campground and Coaldale campground, located on the left.
